My heart broke this morning as I read the following headline…
At least 114 UN troops in Haiti linked to sex crimes.
Port-Au-Prince, Haiti:
Girls as young as 13 were having sex with UN peace-keepers for as little as $1. Five Haitian women who followed soldiers back to Sri Lanka were forced into brothels or polygamous households. They have been rescued and brought home to warn others of the dangers of foreign liaisons…
Did you catch the irony of that? They were warning others of the dangers of those peace-keepers sent to protect them…This is the poorest country in the western hemisphere desperately in need of help and those sent to help them end up exploiting them and their poverty and desperocity and trust.
I will admit that Haiti holds a special place in our hearts and God has continued to move our hearts for Haiti and her people, but it doesn’t matter where or to whom this happens it still is a tragedy.
