The Adventures of Adoption…

As most of you know we are in the process of adopting a beautiful boy from Haiti. It is amazing how much you can love someone you don’t even really know. He already holds a special place in our hearts.

The thought of him actually being in our home as a part of our family is what drives us and keeps us going. This is our first go at adoption. It is a wonderful experience but also a hard and frustrating one.

Just this past week we got news that Haiti is on the verge of changing their adoption law come January 7, 2009. The law will include the following requirements…

1) the adopting couple must be at least 35 years old…(we’re 32)

2) the adopting couple must not have any biological children…(we have 2)

3) the adopting couple must be married for at least 10 years…(whew, we finally got one…we’ve been married for 12)

This has caused us to kick everything in high gear to try to get everything done and turned in by the 7th of January.

We have been scrambling to get everything we need to get done. We are almost there. We drove up to Bryan about 2 hours away to get our HIV and other tests done (BTW, if you live anywhere close to Bryan, TX Dr. Bacak at Abundant Life Medical Office is by far the best doctor and has the best doctor’s office I have ever been to). We left the doctors office and had to head to downtown Houston to visit HPD to get our official background checks. We went from there to Humble to the DPS office to get a change of address on my license (I couldn’t do it online because I have a CDL). Saturday we spent the day at our church, Ecclesia Houston, at the Taft Street Market where we had a table set up selling T-shirts, Christmas cards, homemade ornaments (made by the kids), and photos Debra took from Haiti. All of our proceeds benifitted our adoption funds. Then we spent all day yesterday transferring all of our documents into Word documents so we can send it to the translator to be translated into Creole. We have a few things left and also need a few dollars to be able to turn in our dosier by the 7th.

Things you can do to help…

1)PRAY! Pray for us that God will continue to act on our behalf and meet our needs according to his riches and glory.

2)Buy a shirt or a picture or make a donation to our donation fund by going to Debra’s site at debraparker.typepad.com. We still need about $3000 by the 7th to be able to turn in our dosier as well as around $1500 for other fees and stuff shortly after.

3)Tell your friends, families, and acquaintances about our cause so they too can do 1) and 2) above.

4)PRAY! Pray some more.

Thank you all for your love and support during this venture and helping us make this dream a reality! We love and appreciate you all.
